Freedom of Speech

It is hard to believe many people still do not have the right to free speech.

No One For President

Get the T-Shirt and wear it proudly - it’s made in the USA!

or maybe a button?

or a bumper sticker?

Many people have been asking why I started the No One for President campaign. Folks want to know why I make fun of politics and politicians. Isn’t electing a president serious business?

Electing a president is not just serious business, it’s a trust, a duty, a responsibility every American should cherish. The problem is many don’t. Slightly more than 60% of registered voters cast their ballot in the 2004 Presidential election, the best turnout in over 35 years. Still 78 million stayed home on election day. To put that in perspective, President Bush won the election with slightly over 62 million votes.

You may have heard, ‘your vote doesn’t count’, you may even believe it. I don’t. Poking fun at politics and politicians is my way of asking people to get involved. I want to make people aware of the problems facing our country and the candidates who are willing and able to help solve them. I chose humor because it seems to me people who smile listen better.

So after you have had a chuckle or two join me and help fix what’s wrong with the United States of America.

Some things people who support No One want:

I ask that Candidate No One address the problem of cultural amnesia that plagues the ordinary citizen, as well as the paranoia and fear that is running rampant across this divided country.

 September 11th Conspiracies

It would be refreshing for a candidate to address the level of irrationality that has swept the country by storm. This paranoia and irrationality I refer to is the notion that our government (the infamous and mysterious “Men in Black”) was behind the September 11th attacks. The historical distrust in government, while a healthy defense against corruption and scandal, is now run amok with outlandish claims with little or no evidence to support any of them. Combine this paranoia with government secrecy (a necessary element during wartime), and you have a rather hefty recipe for conspiracy theories to fester like a nasty boil.

Conspiracy theories represent the highest and most vile form of manipulation through propaganda, the use of pseudoscience to gain support, and antiscience as expert testimony and research is ignored by the public in favor of sexier theories involving government plots, cover-ups, and black operations.

With a world full of nutcases and crackpots hell bent on destruction, is it really that hard to believe that extremists/terrorists really do exist???

This Land is My Land, This Land is Your Land!

I ask that Candidate No One remind the vast array of nincompoop, dingle-berry, no-it-alls that this country was founded on the idea of immigration. Unfortunately, anti-immigration is nothing new to America. Go ask New York and California!! Sadly, many groups of people of various ethnicities, races, religions, and creed have been spit on and persecuted by the same people who sing patriotic songs with glee about America’s warm embrace.

 Terrorism

I ask that Candidate No One address the issue of terrorism in our country by ensuring that an appropriate definition is applied to those persons deserving of such a label. On the other hand, labelling petty criminals, sex offenders, bank robbers, etc. as terrorists is foolish and detrimental to criminal laws. It weakens the meaning of the term, “terrorist”, and places innocent people into the same category as violent individuals.

Likewise, I would ask that Candidate No One better educate the public regarding the real dangers behind extremism–regardless of politics, religion, ideology, etc. The issue of terrorism is not simply a Muslim issue–may we be reminded of the effects of extremism as prevalent among neo-nazis, radical environmentalists, anti-abortion bombers, militant anarchists, etc. Likewise, responding to extremists with violence only seems to beget more violence.

I would also ask there be auditing and investigations done on anti-terror, security corporations that ultimately create stimulate an economy that is motivated by profit and fueled by fear. In other words, when profits can be made for the purpose of protecting the public, there is very little incentive for such companies to see terror go away.
