Until the political system is greatly changed at the most basic level of local elections at the city level in our national communities; then, and only then will we be on a road to true greatness, as a nation in history. Only by going back to the basics in electing city council individuals and mayors in a "Citizen Server" format, will we see our country become "all it can be." Note volunteer column on: http://wordsuponmystone.wordpress.com, titled, "But it has always been done that way," copyright 2008.

This article against Manly's was so boring, you lost me in second full, self-righteous paragraph. BORING. The Brent comment on Aug. 4th is the most intelligent and realistic way to approach politicians.

First, anyone quoting National Lampoon's Vacation to make a political point immediately loses all credibility.

Second, for "Burt", Mr. Manly did not get fired from either the paper or The Stir. He joined the US Navy.

I grew up in a small town (Danville, IL) and now live in Chicago. I've lived in Dallas, New York and spent nearly a year in Africa. I feel like I've lived in enough different places to know a bit about the average person, regardless of city/town size. I've also followed politics closely and I've come to the conclusion that politicians are politicians no matter the party. They will say whatever they need to say to get elected. McCain drifted back and forth from center to right and back as the poll winds blew. Obama started far left and is drifting to the center for the same reason. Obama, like McCain, will say whatever they need to say to get elected. Doesn't make him better or worse than any other politician, just the same. The sooner we all realize this the better voters we will be. Look to their voting records as to the type of President they would be. History is your best indicator, not a stump speech or bus tour.

Give it a break folks. It was only one statement among millions Obama has made. He's even said he was in error. What do you want? Perfection---from Democrats, of course, but what about Republicans. You let them slide, slippery folks that you are.

It would appear that Mr. Manly may have written his own epitaph. Suddenly, he is no longer listed as a writer for the Hays newspaper and a web site he used, The Stir, to spread his misinformation has disappeared.

Is there any argument lamer than "you can't spell"? Besides, it was Will Manly who misspelled Barrack - not the author of this article. It really didn't take a whole lot of thought to figure that out.

I agree with the article, I'll believe what I want to, not what some journalist or politician tell me to.

You might want to try proof-reading or using spellchecker. It's hundred, not hunderd and it's Barack, not Barrack. You might have a good point or two, but I wouldn't know because I quit reading after you misspelled the man's name.
